Dr. Sahar El Aidy
Sahar El Aidy is appointed as a Rosalind Franklin Fellow in 2015 at the level of associate professor in the Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute at the University of Groningen. She works in the field of microbiome research, studying in particular the role of gut microbiota, its metabolic activity, and interactions with the host immune, metabolic, and neurological functions. Her group focuses on how gut microbiota sense and metabolize neuroactive compounds that are part of our diet and the impact of these bacterial metabolites on the neuro-immune response within the gut and brain.
In recognition of her achievements in science as well as outreach, she won the NWO Athena Award 2020, was appointed at the Young Academy Groningen (YAG) and is a member of the Young Science and Engineering Network (YSEN).
