Professor Arwen Deuss
Arwen Deuss is a professor of structure and composition of Earth’s deep interior at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. She received her doctorate at the University of Oxford and before arriving at Utrecht in 2014, she spent ten years at the University of Cambridge as a fellow of Pembroke College and lecturer (and then reader) in Earth Sciences. Her research focusses on using seismic waves generated by earthquakes to image the Earth’s deep interior, similar to making a brain scan. She is particularly interested in using whole Earth oscillations, which make the Earth ‘ring like a bell’. Professor Arwen Deuss is also a recipient of the NWO Athena Award for her outstanding science, being an inspiring mentor, and prominence in outreach activities (e.g. presence in different television programmes).
During her talk at Insight Out, she will share stories on challenges and opportunities during her career path, working abroad and how to keep a healthy work-life balance.
